I am fortunate to have been part of the creation of Trivandrum International School in 2003. From its inception, Mr George M. Thomas has been determined that The school should not just have an outstanding campus, but also a curriculum that makes it a distinct international school. ‘International’ has always been at the centre of Trivandrum International School. We aim to live by that and become one of the best international schools in India. The academic curriculum is shaped by both International Baccalaureate programmes (the Primary Years Programme and the Diploma Programme) and the suite of Cambridge Assessment International Education examinations offered by the School, but the approach in the classroom is shaped by the commitment to an international education, while studying in India. We know our students will go on to universities in India, as well as others across the world, and prepare them to follow their chosen paths. The ICSE curriculum is available in Grades 9 and 10, and both A-levels and the IBDP enable university admission in India as well as abroad. The hostel facility is an important aspect of the Trivandrum International School community. Those staying in the hostel receive both pastoral and academic support, structured study time being provided throughout the week. There is also a strong social side to the hostel which is welcoming to new students. It is essential to craft a well-structured policy to be the best international school for students. On re-joining Trivandrum International School in 2019 as Director of Academics and Principal, I was delighted to be immersed again in the vast range of extracurricular activities that our students undertake, right here in India. Music and drama have been a strength of the School from its early days, but so has a commitment to social service in Trivandrum. As an extraordinary academic year draws to a close, I would like to write a note of appreciation for how the teachers were able to prepare the children well for their board exams in the midst of almost a whole year of online classes, for the invaluable in-person classes and mock exams in very challenging and uncertain conditions, and then putting in even more work to meet the demands stemming from the cancellation of the board exams. Thank you for your immense patience with the children during the online classes and keeping them motivated, and all the hard work!

I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the effort taken by the school and members of the faculty during the past academic year. Although no physical classes were held for the better part of the year, the educational standards were not compromised and the teachers went the extra mile in ensuring that the classes were held effectively. Exams were also conducted with utmost efficiency. The few weeks that the children attended the class in the school campus did help them a lot for their exam preparation, especially the ATP lessons. The flexibility and the adaptability shown by all stakeholders (Teachers, student and parents) deserve special mention as it involved learning a lot of new tools and adjusting to the online medium. Once again, kudos to all involved!

Department of Special Educational Needs (SEN): Individualized Learning Support designed for holistic intervention based on their clinical diagnosis.

Inclusive education in TRINS is an ongoing process that aims to increase access and engagement in learning for all students by identifying and removing barriers. For the development of academic and communication skills and better social interaction of a child with special needs, inclusion is a need of the education system. The faculty at TRINS is committed to including children with special needs and disabilities in all teaching-learning practices. We follow an equitable approach that responds to the severity or complexity of the needs of individual students. Students with special needs and disabilities are provided access to the IB PYP, Middle School (Cambridge curriculum), ICSE, IGCSE/AS-A Levels, and IBDP curricula in the least restrictive environment. Depending on the child’s ability, he/she will follow a grade level curriculum with accommodations, modifications or adaptation or a modified curriculum. School has an excellent resource unit with a team of well qualified rehabilitation professionals registered under the Rehabilitation Council of India(RCI).

English as a Second Language (ESL)
